Halloween ??

Do you celebrate Halloween ? I feel really bad about it, but I'm a bit of a scrooge I think.

I always dread All Hallows Eve. I'd like to get excited about it (like the Americans do), but the thought of cheeky little kids wearing a 'costume' that consists of nothing more than a bit of toilet paper wrapped around their head, rapping on my door and demanding lollies really bugs me. I mean, I rarely buy my own kids lollies, so why would I want to buy them for every child within a 4-block radius ?

In saying that though, I usually do buy some lollies for the really little kids. We sometimes tell the older ones that we've run out because if we don't, they tell all the others which houses have lollies and then they swarm in like locusts and clean us out !!

And what of the TRICK in 'trick or treat' ?. We've actually said to some that we'd rather a trick, and they have no idea what we're on about. I've never been nervous that my house will be egged because I've not given out sweets.

I'd love to decorate the house, but it actually looks creepy enough without any adornment, and I doubt I could find somewhere to neatly store all the 'stuff' till next year (yep, that's why we don't decorate at Christmas time either). I have always wanted to carve a pumpkin into an amazing work of art, and maybe someday I might...(though I can't guarantee it'll be anything more than pumpkin soup by the time I've finished LOL).

I suppose I'm not completely anti-Halloween...I once went to a Halloween fancy dress party once dressed as Frankenstein's Bride...

So what about you ? What are your thoughts on Halloween ??
