18 July update

Firstly, apologies for not updating here in a while. I don't actually get to the computer every day anymore. Mainly it's because it's so darned cold in our office, but also so much of my time is taken up with feeding Kade, getting Toby to school and back, and generally running a household. So, I will get here as often as I can.

Anyway...our little guy is now over a month old -- can you believe it ?? He is doing well, though he has been suffering from what we believe is colic. He doesn't have it every night, but when he does his screaming fits last for at least an hour. On Monday night he screamed for three hours with only a few short breaks when the poor little thing fell asleep from exhaustion. We decided that we would feed him formula exclusively for a couple of days (and I would continue to express milk to keep my supply up till we make a decision about what to do) and see if that made any difference. Well, he has had no trouble yet, though we realise it may take a few days. I don't want to stop breastfeeding, but I also don't want Kade to be in pain.

We have analysed my diet to see if there is anything that could be really causing him wind pain, but honestly, unless he is hyper-sensitive to a particular food I have eaten, there is nothing we can pin-point. I only have one cup of coffee per day, and I might have a milo or cup of tea as well, but not always. If I eat any peas or onions it is only a small amount. I don't drink fizzy drinks (maybe one glass every now and then) or milk, so it can't be that causing it. I made meatballs last week and specifically did not put any onion in them, but he still had pain that night. Elliot said he was a nightmare as a baby and thinks it may have been for a similar reason, so I will have to ask Chris or Sandra about it. I have to see the doctor next week for my six-week checkup, so I will ask him what he thinks then.

Apart from that all is good. Kade sleeps for anything from three to six hours of a night and he really is such a good baby. He has started to coo and smile now which is really cute. He loves his bath now and only cries when I take him out.

Well...he has just decided to wake for another feed...gosh 3 hours goes fast ! Will update more soon.
