Saturday, 10 December

Well, Christmas is fast approaching (where HAS the time gone ??), and I only have a week and a half left of work before I get 3 weeks holidays !! YAYYY

We put our Christmas tree up this week, which was quite an achievement. Last year we didn't put the tree up at all as none of us could be bothered. Funnily enough, Toby has never been the type of child to wake the house at some unGodly hour screaming "Santa's been, Santa's been!". In fact, I don't think there has ever been a year when I haven't had to wake him up to come open presents. I think this year, I am getting excited about Christmas again because I know that next year we will have our baby with us. I think a part of me is hoping this child will bring back the joy and excitement of Christmas for us.

Today Toby and I went to the hospital for a tour of the maternity ward (Elliot had to work unfortunately). Although I had Toby in a different hospital, its all pretty-much the same as it was then. Some differences were that they now let you choose between cloth nappies (diapers) or disposables (when I had Toby we were only given cloth); this hospital has a big, deep bath with aromatherapy burners where you can spend much of your labour; some of the birthing rooms have double beds, and one room is bigger than the others to allow the whole family to be present; you are encouraged to take your own food parcels to ensure you are getting tasty food, and enough of it. Visiting hours are also from 2:30pm to 8pm which is great, though father's are allowed to go in whenever they want.

Today I am having a craving for Pepsi, so I just went to the shop and bought a bottle. I haven't had any weird cravings yet, and I never had any with Toby. All I have craved is Pepsi and mint icecream (not together -- ewww).

Last night Toby had a disco at school. The theme was "beach", and there were prizes for the best dressed girl and boy. I took Toby to buy some 'props' for his costume straight after school, and for $8 we got some swimming goggles, floaties, a lei and a float ring thingie. He certainly looked set for the beach, and of course, he WON !! His prize was a CD single. He had a great night and is now suffering from slight laryngitis from having to yell to be heard above the music LOL.

Am I doing something wrong with posting comments? I thought I'd posted one on your previous...?

Well anyhoo, Toby looks FAB!!!! So cute! Congrats on winning Toby!

I think that is so awesome that they let you use cloth dipes in the hospital. No can do around here, they only let you use disposables! Even if you bring your own cloth!

And I would LOVE having a tub to (try) to relax in during labor! How cool is that!

All we have is a slightly larger than standard size hospital room with a TV to give birth in...and then they move you to a dinky room after delivery and recovery.

And also they would freak out if you ate food while in labor here.

Course, prolly most women would have someone bringing them Mickey D's, which really would be awful during labor! :-p

I'm not sure if they let you eat while you are actually in labour here Lawanda, but certainly afterwards. And I don't think they are too restrictive on what you can eat. The midwife said that hospital food is for convalescing patients; new mum's need the calories and the flavour of 'real' food.
