Well, have you ?? We're supposed to have them every 2 years, so if you're overdue PLEASE go and book an appointment for one right now !
I had my routine test last year and the result was low level abnormalities. Nothing to worry about necessarily, I just needed to have another test this year. So, right on schedule, I did.
Yesterday I found out that I now have high level abnormalities (ie: pre-cancerous cells). I am booked to see a gynaecologist tomorrow regarding further testing and/or treatment. My GP said laser treatment to remove the cells is the most likely treatment.
** Update : I will be going for surgery to remove the affected cells as soon as they can schedule a day for me
I have two kids...one who is still just a baby...do I need to tell you how much this has scared me ? I am SO glad that I have never ever let myself be intimidated by having the test. I am SO glad that I am not precious about whether I see a male or a female doctor. I am SO glad that this was caught now, before it's too late. One of my girlfriends wasn't so lucky and is due for a hysterectomy early next year.
So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go and have your PAP test and make sure that you continue to have them routinely every two years ! A little discomfort in the GP's office is certainly more favourable that the possible alternative.

I thought something was up *hug* at least it's been caught early and I second the motion of EVERYONE needs to be aware to HAVE YOUR SMEARS DONE! If you're a woman - get one done - yes it's a little embarrassing to a lot of you, but it's WORTH IT!. If you're a gent - make sure those who matter to you have had them - your wives, girlfriends and best mates!
*Big hug*
Tamara :)
Oh goodness Cindy! I hope it is minor and easily taken care of! ((hugs))
